Your Majesty the Queen, ladies and gentlemen.
My name is Julia Willig and I am hard of hearing. I use hearing aids to be able to hear what other people say. But sometimes hearing aids are not enough. For example if I go to a café with a lot of people and noise or should my hearing aid die I will be left outside of the conversation. I know how to use hand sign language and it is a good complement to hearing aids. If I can use hand sign language with my friends then I don't have to worry about not hearing, I can just relax and be myself. As a hard of hearing person it is important to be able to communicate in a way that is best for me. We don't want anything to "block" the communication, we want it to be open and we want to be able to participate in conversations without feeling left out.
Thank you very much.
